XPO Logistics will serve as the official transportation partner for this year's Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, extending a 55-year relationship with organiser Amaury Sport Organisation.

The logistics group will deploy 45 trucks and 56 drivers for the men's race, moving infrastructure between stages as the event travels through Spain and France. For the women's race, it will provide 16 drivers across the nine-stage route, with an additional truck assigned to a caravan partner.

This year's men's Tour will bring together 184 riders from 23 teams across 21 stages covering more than 3,321 kilometres. The route spans seven regions and 29 départements, opening in Barcelona with a team time trial for the first time in more than five decades.

During the men's race, departing trucks will average 2,786 kilometres and arriving trucks 2,592 kilometres. An additional truck has also been assigned this year to carry a departure village arch.

Race logistics

Transport providers play a central role in the Tour's daily operation, as the race village, barriers, signage and other equipment must be dismantled and rebuilt overnight from one location to the next. The challenge is greater with mountain finishes, city-centre starts and the scale of the travelling publicity caravan that precedes the riders.

Known as the Caravane du Tour, the caravan remains a prominent feature of both races. Decorated vehicles travel the route ahead of the competitors and distribute souvenirs to roadside crowds, making the convoy an important part of the event's commercial and public-facing operation.

XPO will again use its LESS HVO fuel system for both races. The system uses HVO biofuel through the company's fuel tank network and can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%, according to the company.

During the 2025 editions of the two races, the fuel system helped avoid more than 223,370kg of CO2 emissions, XPO said. This year's women's race includes a first ascent of Mont Ventoux, adding another high-profile logistical test on stage seven.

Long partnership

The partnership highlights how heavily major sporting events rely on transport companies to manage mobile infrastructure over long distances and tight schedules. In cycling, where a race can move hundreds of kilometres each day, delays in freight operations can affect teams, organisers, sponsors and host towns.

Amaury Sport Organisation has worked with XPO on the Tour for more than half a century, and says that continuity has helped the event adapt to changing operational and environmental demands.

Guillaume Col, President - Europe, XPO Logistics, outlined the scale of the assignment.

"The Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift are cultural cycling icons, and it makes us very proud to be once again a key part of the incredibly complex and enjoyable logistical challenge. We always have the very best drivers and teams working on these events, who consistently deliver where it matters most: precision, agility and absolute reliability. When the world's biggest cycling race moves every day, they need a partner they can count on - and that's exactly what we provide," he said.

The organiser also stressed the operational demands of the races.

"The Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift are among the world's largest and most complex travelling sporting events. Delivering these races every day-from city centres to the summits of iconic mountains-requires logistics that are precise, agile, sustainable, and flawlessly executed. This is why we are particularly proud of our longstanding partnership with XPO Logistics. For 55 years, we have worked side by side, continuously innovating and adapting together to meet the evolving challenges of the event. This trusted collaboration is a key factor in ensuring that the excitement and spectacle of the races reach millions of fans across France and around the world every year," said Kleszcz.

XPO's European business operates 206 sites across 14 countries, with 20,000 trucks and trailers, 1,000,000 square metres of warehouse space and 14,000 employees. Across North America and Europe, the wider group serves 55,000 customers through 605 locations and employs 38,000 people.
