Krea has launched Krea 3, a new AI image editing model that it says ranks second on CPI-Bench behind GPT Image 2.5.

The launch adds a new entrant to the fast-moving market for AI tools aimed at design, advertising, eCommerce and media teams that need to alter images quickly while preserving visual consistency.

According to Krea, Krea 3 Ultra scored 4.81 out of five on CPI-Bench, which it describes as a benchmark for real-world image editing. That would place it ahead of GPT Image 2, Seedream 5 Pro, Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro.

Speed is a central claim for the new model. Krea says it can deliver 2K edits in under eight seconds from start to finish, making it 10 times faster than GPT Image 2 and four times faster than Nano Banana Pro. Pricing starts at USD $0.03 per image at 1K resolution and rises to USD $0.06 at 2K.

Editing tools

Krea says the model is the first image editing system that can be trained on a specific product, person or style using LoRA fine-tuning. The aim is to help users keep the appearance of branded products, recurring characters or a particular visual style consistent across multiple images.

Krea 3 also includes regional editing, allowing changes to just part of an image while leaving the rest untouched. Other controls include bounding boxes for placing elements in set positions and support for up to six reference images in a single edit, including style references.

The model runs natively at 2K resolution and also supports output up to 4K, aimed at uses such as print work, larger displays and campaign assets.

In practical terms, Krea is targeting teams that edit high volumes of images. It says eCommerce users can turn a simple snapshot into a studio-style product image, place goods into lifestyle scenes, or generate alternative colour versions. Marketing teams can adapt layouts, localise posters into other languages and extend one advert into a series of related images.

Architects and product designers are also among the intended users. Krea says those groups can use the model to test materials, lighting and atmosphere in spaces or product concepts before final production.

Víctor Perez, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Krea, set out the company's view of the current market. "Editing models are already used across eCommerce, film and advertising, but they've been held back by speed. The models good enough for production are too slow for real workflows," Perez said. "Krea 3 brings high-quality edits in under 8 seconds at 2K, and it's the first edit model you can train on a specific product or person. That's what makes it ready for production at scale. When an edit takes seconds, creatives can stop rationing their ideas and start exploring them."

Market reach

Krea says more than 35 million people use its platform and that teams at one in three Fortune 500 companies use its tools. It also says it has raised more than USD $80 million from investors including a16z, Bain Capital Ventures and Abstract.

The company named Shopify, HelloFresh, Huge, GUT, Kirksey and Clayco among organisations it works with, adding that feedback from agencies, film studios, architecture firms, eCommerce brands and marketing teams informed the development of Krea 3.

Some customers are already testing or using the model. Krea says Pixelcut and Doodles are among them, with Pixelcut putting the tool in front of its own customers to create product images for small businesses.

Diego Rodriguez, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Krea, described the focus on user control. "Krea 3 sets a new standard for AI image editing. It comes with every control a creative needs: bounding boxes to decide exactly where things go, precise edits that only change the pixels that need to change, and style references and LoRA training to tune the model to your aesthetic, your product or your talent," Rodriguez said. "The result is pixel-perfect images built around what you care about."

Outside backers also framed the release as part of a broader shift in creative workflows. "For years, image models have made creators choose between the best quality and the speed to actually iterate. Krea 3 removes that tradeoff," said Justine Moore, Partner at a16z. "When a top-quality edit comes back fast enough to try the next idea right away, the model stops being a step in the workflow and becomes the workflow."

Krea says Krea 3 is available through its own platform, its API and a number of distribution partners including fal, Hedra, Together AI, Nous Research, OpenRouter, Baseten and Replicate.
